Ree Drummond just shared a Father’s Day post for her dad—and the photos alone tell quite a story.

In honor of the holiday, Ree posted a handful of pictures of her father through the years, starting with the black-and-white photo she often shares on Father’s Day. In it, he’s young and in uniform during his time in Vietnam, where he was working at an evac hospital when Ree was born. (That detail has always been such an interesting part of her family story!)

Ree also included an old photo of her dad holding her as a baby, along with other family pictures from different seasons of life. Some are older, some are newer, and together they make a sweet Father’s Day album.

“I love these photos of my dad, especially the first one, which I tend always to share on Father’s Day,” Ree wrote. “He’s a physician and a veteran; in fact, he was in Vietnam working at an evac hospital when I was born. We didn’t meet until I was ten months old, and I think I loudly squealed and shrieked a lot as a baby, which I don’t think was good for his nerves at the time. 😊 Fortunately, he loved me anyway through my many ages and stages and silly seasons, and I’m so lucky to have such a hero in my life. Happy Father’s Day, Dad!!! ❤️”

That first meeting when she was a baby must have been something. Ten months old is plenty old enough to have strong opinions, make lots of noise, and demand attention from a father who had just come home from a very different kind of life. Fortunately, as Ree pointed out, he loved her through all of it!

Her post was a simple one, but it said plenty: gratitude for his service, love for the father he’s been, and a very happy Father’s Day to a dad she clearly adores.
