This pizza spaghetti pie brings two Drummond family-favorite dinners together in one skillet! It starts with spaghetti tossed with eggs, Parmesan, and Italian seasonings, then gets topped with pizza sauce, mozzarella, Italian sausage, bell peppers, red onions, and black olives.

This is such a fun way to change up spaghetti night, especially when you want something the whole family can enjoy. The spaghetti mixture cooks briefly in an ovenproof skillet before the toppings go on, then the whole thing finishes in the oven so the cheese gets melted and bubbly. Once baked, the pasta sets into a cheesy, saucy pie you can slice into wedges just like pizza.

Serve this pizza spaghetti pie with a simple green salad, roasted broccoli, or cheesy garlic bread. You can also switch up the toppings based on what you have on hand. It’s a perfect dinner for a busy weeknight, but it would be just as welcome at a potluck or on a game-day spread. This one might just earn a spot in your regular rotation!

Can you use ground beef instead of Italian sausage?

Absolutely. Ground beef, turkey sausage, or crumbled meatballs would all be tasty substitutes for the Italian sausage in this pizza spaghetti pie.

Can you add other pizza toppings to pizza spaghetti pie?

Of course! Try mushrooms, pepperoni, cooked bacon, banana peppers, or sautéed vegetables. For the best texture, cook or drain any ingredients that release a lot of moisture before adding them. Too many watery toppings can keep the pie from setting properly.

Can you make pizza spaghetti pie ahead?

You can cook the spaghetti and sausage a day ahead and refrigerate them separately. Assemble and bake the pie when you’re ready to serve. It’s best fresh out of the oven.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt, plus more for the pasta
  • 8 oz. spaghetti
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (about 2 oz.)
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 2 1/4 cups pizza sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (about 6 oz.)
  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 8 oz. Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 5 thinly sliced green bell pepper rings
  • 1/4 cup sliced red onions
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • Arugula or fresh basil, for garnish

Directions

    1. Step 1Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package directions. Drain, rinse under cold water, and set aside to cool. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 400˚F.
    2. Step 2Whisk together the eggs, Parmesan, garlic powder, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper, and ¼ cup of the pizza sauce in a large bowl. Add the spaghetti and ½ cup of the mozzarella and toss well to coat.
    3. Step 3Heat the olive oil in a 12-inch ovenproof nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, 8 to 10 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the sausage to a paper towel–lined plate.
    4. Step 4Add the spaghetti mixture to the drippings in the skillet and spread it evenly in the bottom of the pan. Reduce the heat to low and cook just until the edges start setting, about 3 minutes. Pour the remaining 2 cups pizza sauce over the top and spread evenly. Sprinkle with the remaining 1 cup mozzarella, the sausage, bell peppers, red onions, and olives. Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake until the spaghetti mixture is fully set and the cheese is bubbly, about 12 minutes.
    5. Step 5Remove from the oven and immediately loosen the sides and bottom of the pie with a spatula. Let sit for 5 minutes, then slide the pie out of the pan and onto a cutting board. Top with arugula or basil. Cut into wedges.
