(by Miz Booshay) Do you want to know a secret? I’m really excited to be able to share with you all the the editing secrets I’ve learned over the past few months. This picture of my eighteen-year-old daughter was edited in Lightroom. Lightroom is an Adobe product. I’ve enjoyed using both Lightroom and Photoshop CS3, but I especially have fun with Lightroom’s presets.

How are Photoshop CS3 and Lightroon different?
Well…. just off the top of my head, Lightroom is more visual.
It is more geared toward photography and not so much toward graphics.
But for me, it is about the ease of use and the quality.
(Oh gosh. I’m in way over my head. Let me just show you the things I like….and what it did for this picture.

Lightroom comes with a nice set of what they call Presets. Presets are similar to Actions in Photoshop.
I used Lightroom’s “Aged Photo” Preset on this picture.

Here is the before (SOOC) picture.
The two things I wanted to address with this picture were the issues with the light and the skin.
I love her hair and her eyes.
Here’s Lightroom.
Over on the left are the Presets. I love the little preview in the left hand corner. That photo is a sample of what the preset will look like. I am trying out one called “Direct Positive.” I can tell by looking at the preview that this preset doesn’t help with the skin issues; it turns the skin more red. With my little mouse arrow, I can easily scroll down the whole list of presets to get a quick idea of which ones might work best. (This is what I mean when I say Lightroom is a visual product.)
Here I have chosen the “Aged Photo” Preset. And oh! I like it. I like the skin tones and her eyes have enough light in them.
Now, perhaps a crop is in order? The cropping tools are at the bottom of the page.
This rectangular crop is too skinny and takes away those whispy hairs, so I changed the settings to 1×1, aka a square.
Easy-peasy.
The square crop allows me to leave out some of that over-exposed white shirt and include the whispy hair.
I have a thing for whispy hair.
So there she is, my eighteen year old daughter.
I look just like her.

Wife, Mom and…Grandma!
Ree’s kids (daughters Alex and Paige and sons Bryce and Todd) are all grown up, and as of December 2024, Ree is the proud grandma of the cutest baby ever, Sofia Scott, born to Alex and her husband Mauricio. Ree still cooks for Ladd (and the kids when they’re home), and she also looks after a few mischievous ranch dogs.
