When fresh summer peaches start showing up at markets and farmstands, I can't wait to bring home a big bag. They're so sweet and juicy this time of year that they hardly need any help to become an incredible peach dessert. And if you know me, you know I can never resist a good fruit crisp—especially one with a buttery, sweet, crunchy topping. Honestly, I could eat that golden crumble with a spoon!

That's exactly why I love this peach crisp with pecan crumble recipe. The peaches bake down until they're soft, bubbly, and wonderfully syrupy, while the topping turns crisp and golden with plenty of buttery pecans in every bite. A little maple syrup adds just the right touch of warmth and sweetness without stealing the show from the fruit. Around our house, this is the kind of fruit dessert everyone gathers around for, especially when it's served warm with a big scoop of vanilla bean ice cream melting over the top. If you're lucky enough to have fresh, ripe peaches on hand, this is the dessert I'd make first.

What is the difference between a peach crisp and a peach crumble?

Both desserts feature baked peaches with a sweet topping, but a peach crisp typically includes oats or nuts for extra crunch, while a crumble has a softer, streusel-like topping. This maple pecan peach crisp gets its signature crisp texture from chopped pecans in the buttery topping.

Can you use frozen peaches instead of fresh?

Yes! Fresh summer peaches have the best flavor and texture, but frozen peaches work well out of season. Thaw and drain them well before using so the filling doesn't become too watery.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1 stick salted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 1/2 lb. peaches (7 to 8), peeled and sliced
  • Grated zest and juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 2 Tbsp. pure maple syrup
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Directions

    1. Step 1Preheat the oven to 375˚F. In a medium bowl, mix the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt using a fork. Add the butter and mix and mush it into the flour mixture with the fork. Stir in the pecans.
    2. Step 2Combine the peaches and the lemon zest and juice in a large bowl. Add the maple syrup and stir well.
    3. Step 3Pour the peach mixture into a 1 1/2-quart baking dish and cover evenly with the crumb topping. Bake until crisp and browned on top, 35 to 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream.
