This crowd-pleasing s’mores dip recipe comes together with just three ingredients, no campfire required. It’s gooey, chocolatey, and golden-topped, with all the nostalgia of the classic treat, minus the sticky skewers and smoke. The real fun comes in the dipping: graham crackers are a given, but don’t stop there. Try pretzels for a salty-sweet twist, strawberries or apple slices for a fruity pop, or cubes of angel food cake for a decadent touch. Best of all, the chocolate stays velvety and scoopable to the very last bite, thanks to a splash of heavy cream and a warm cast-iron skillet. Summer dessert doesn’t get easier or more fun than this.

While nothing compares to a perfectly roasted marshmallow, there is a whole world of s’mores desserts that will keep you asking for s’more, including s'mores bars, s'mores pie, and chocolate-covered s'mores.

Can you use dark chocolate in s’mores dip?

Absolutely. Semisweet or even bittersweet chocolate will work well if you prefer a richer, more grown-up flavor. That said, milk chocolate will provide that nostalgic, classic s’mores taste.

Do you need a kitchen torch to make s’mores dip?

Not at all. You can achieve beautifully golden, gooey marshmallows right in your oven. A quick 15-minute bake at 400°F does double duty: It melts the marshmallows so they puff up and form a pillowy blanket over the chocolate, and it gives them an even golden-brown finish. Craving that extra-deep caramelized flavor and color? Just pop the skillet under the broiler for a minute or two at the end (keep a close eye on it!).

Ingredients

  • 2 (7.56-ounce) large milk chocolate bars, very finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 48 regular marshmallows (about 9.5 ounces; 6 cups)
  • Graham crackers, pretzels, and strawberries, for dipping

Directions

    1. Step 1Position a rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat to 400˚F.
    2. Step 2Place the chocolate in a medium heatproof bowl. In a glass measuring cup, microwave the heavy cream until steaming, 1 to 2 minutes (do not boil). Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for 2 minutes. Stir until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is well combined. (Do not overmix; it's okay if it is not perfectly smooth.) Transfer the mixture to a 10-inch cast-iron skillet or 9-inch deep-dish pie plate and spread in an even layer.
    3. Step 3Arrange the marshmallows on top in a single layer; it’s ok if there are minor gaps (the marshmallows will expand in the oven). Bake until the marshmallows are puffed and golden, 13 to 15 minutes.
    4. Step 4If you would like a deep golden top, increase the oven to broil and cook until the marshmallows are deeply browned and caramelized, 2 to 3 minutes. (Alternatively, use a kitchen torch.) Serve the dip with graham crackers, pretzels, and strawberries for dipping.
