Watermelon is already one of my favorite summer treats, but this little trick makes it even better. All it takes is a quick sprinkle of lime sugar—a simple combination of sugar, kosher salt, and fresh lime zest—to transform juicy watermelon into something truly special.

The sweetness of the sugar enhances the natural flavor of the fruit, while the salt makes every bite taste even more refreshing. Then there's the lime zest, which adds a bright, citrusy pop that wakes everything up. It's the perfect balance of sweet, salty, and tangy.

I love serving this watermelon at summer get-togethers like Fourth of July parties. It pairs really well with hot dogs or grilled chicken and doubles as a refreshing dessert. It's incredibly easy to make, but it always gets people talking. In fact, once you try watermelon with lime sugar, it might become your new favorite way to enjoy this classic summer fruit.

Can you make the lime sugar ahead of time?

Yes! The lime sugar can be mixed together several hours in advance. For the freshest flavor, sprinkle it over the watermelon just before serving.

Can you use lemon zest instead of lime zest?

Absolutely. Lemon zest will give the watermelon a slightly different citrus flavor, but it's just as delicious and refreshing.
