When the weather heats up, I love serving a fun, fruity drink that's just as festive as any cocktail—but everyone at the party can enjoy it. These sparkling honeydew watermelon coolers are a refreshing, non-alcoholic mocktail that's perfect for baby showers, bridal showers, barbecues, and just about any summer gathering. They’re light, bubbly, and so pretty to serve with little watermelon ball garnishes.
The combination of honeydew and watermelon makes this drink naturally sweet and incredibly refreshing. Honeydew is blended until silky smooth, then brightened with fresh lime juice for a little zing. A splash of chilled lemon-lime soda adds plenty of fizzy bubbles, giving every sip a crisp, sparkling finish.
One of my favorite things is that most of the work can be done ahead of time. Blend the honeydew mixture and chill it until guests arrive, then simply stir in the soda right before serving to keep everything nice and bubbly! Can you use sparkling water instead of lemon-lime soda in this honeydew watermelon cooler recipe?
Yes, but the flavor will be less sweet. For a lighter version, substitute sparkling water or club soda and add a little simple syrup or honey to taste if desired.
Can you make honeydew watermelon coolers ahead of time?
You can make the honeydew puree and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 2 days in advance. Add the soda just before serving so it’s cool and fizzy.
Can you freeze the honeydew puree?
Yes. Freeze the puree in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Thaw it overnight in the refrigerator before mixing with the soda and serving.

Ingredients
- 1/2 large honeydew melon, chopped (about 5 cups)
- 1/3 cup fresh lime juice (from about 3 limes)
- 1/2 small seedless watermelon
- 1 L lemon-lime soda, chilled
Directions
- Step 1Puree the honeydew in a blender until smooth. Pour into a large liquid measuring cup or bowl and stir in the lime juice. Chill at least 4 hours or until ready to serve.
- Step 2Meanwhile, use the small side of a melon baller to scoop 16 watermelon balls. Thread the balls onto 8 small skewers (2 balls each) and chill, covered, until ready to serve.
- Step 3Pour the soda into a pitcher. Slowly stir in the honeydew puree, waiting for the foam to subside before adding more. Pour into ice-filled glasses and garnish each with a watermelon skewer.
