After four years of sitting in classes, reviewing lessons, and taking tests, there’s nothing more surreal than walking across the stage in your cap and gown on graduation day. Receiving a high school diploma is one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments. Many people look back on their graduation ceremony with a lot of pride, but when Ree Drummond rediscovered a clip from her high school graduation, what stood out to her the most wasn’t anything sentimental or, for that matter, even related to that milestone moment. Nope, her favorite part of the throwback video was the quality!
When a former classmate sent Ree footage from their 1987 graduation ceremony at Bartlesville High School, the clip was so good that she had to share it on Instagram. In the video, a teenage Ree, who’s clad in a royal blue cap and gown, shakes hands with the principal before accepting her well-earned diploma. As Ree walks off the stage, the camera zooms in on her face, which breaks out into a smile.
The moment is so sweet and special, but the highlight for Ree isn’t at all what you’d expect! “You know what I love about it?” Ree asked in the caption. On the next slide, she re-uploaded the same video, along with her hilarious answer: “The video glitching isn’t a video glitch filter. The video is actually glitching. 😂 Ok bye.”
The video itself is a bit grainy, but that’s what makes it so nostalgic! High school Ree’s hairstyle is another telling (and endearing!) sign of the times: Her big, voluminous curls with feathery bangs… it’s all so quintessentially ‘80s.
If you’ve been following Ree for a while, you know how much she loves taking a stroll down memory lane—and poking fun at her past self! Over the years, Ree has posted so many snapshots from her youth, including her joint family baptism, her pageboy haircut, and her ballet days. Ree also adores posting throwback photos for her kids’ birthdays, such as baby Alex (her firstborn) in a full-on angel costume at a mall kiosk and baby Paige (her second child) in her daisy-printed one-piece. No matter what stage Ree is reflecting on, one thing’s for sure: She has a great sense of humor about it!
