There's no better time to see Ree's guesthouse, and the set of her Food Network show, than around the holidays. Nearly every surface at the Lodge has a festive flourish—and a big, beautiful tree stands in the main room. It wasn’t always this way: During the first year of Lodge tours, not a single ornament or wreath appeared in December.
“We actually heard from a few visitors that they missed seeing Christmas decor, so we’ve been decorating ever since!” says Ree.
Last year she enlisted the help of local art teacher Avery Chambers to give the space the ultimate holiday makeover. Ree’s request: nothing too formal or serious! Avery took note and filled the space with oversize ornaments, glittering lights and, of course, lots of gingham. Check out the results...
Towering Tree
Ree isn’t always at the Lodge to water a real tree, so she chose an artificial one strung with 1,600 microlights. “It was a hard decision. Fake trees are against my religion!” she says.
Cozy Corner
Plaid and cowhide pillows help make the sofa by the front door extra cozy. “Everything needs to have a little bit of fun, color and whimsy,” Ree says.
Kitchen Village
In the kitchen, Avery mixed Ree’s collection of serveware with tiny galvanized buildings and candy cane swirls.
Mantel Magic
Stockings and garland are hung from the mantel with care, while a pair of cowboy boots adds the perfect ranch-approved touch.
"There’s something about Christmas in the country that feels so warm and traditional," Ree says.
