Searching for the perfect cocktail to make on a scorching summer day? You can't go wrong with frozen drinks like this strawberry daiquiri! This grown-up slushie provides the ultimate cool-down; plus, it only has four ingredients: strawberries, rum, lime juice, and sugar. Simplicity at its best! Blend up a batch for a round of fun Fourth of July drinks. Just gather some fun glasses and straws to fit the festive theme. Everyone will appreciate cool and refreshing cocktails while watching the firework show!

What makes a strawberry daiquiri?

The basic makeup of a daiquiri is rum, lime and sugar, whether the drink is served straight up or blended. This recipe calls for doubling up on the strawberries with fresh and frozen berries. Fresh sliced strawberries are combined with lime juice and sugar, creating a naturally deep red syrup. By blending the lime-macerated strawberries and rum with frozen strawberries, the natural sweetness of the fruit is the star. The resulting blended drink is vibrantly colored, incredibly fresh-tasting, and has a perfectly smooth consistency.

What's the difference between a strawberry margarita and a daiquiri?

The main difference is the alcohol used. Margaritas are made with tequila and daiquiris are made with rum.

Can you use all fresh strawberries?

Yes, you can use all fresh strawberries, but the texture will be different. Frozen strawberries give the drink its signature frosty, slushy consistency because they act as both the fruit and the ice—without watering it down. If you're using only fresh strawberries and don’t have time to freeze some, just add ice to the blender to achieve that frozen texture. Keep in mind, though, the added ice may slightly dilute the flavor.

Can you use bottled lime juice?

You can use bottled lime juice in a pinch, but it doesn’t match the bright, fresh flavor of freshly squeezed limes. If possible, go with fresh—it makes all the difference!

Can you use other alcohol besides rum in a strawberry daiquiri?

You can substitute the rum for any light alcohol like vodka, tequila, or gin, it will not be considered a daiquiri. A true daiquiri calls for rum! (But go ahead and use what suits you.)

What kind of rum is best for a strawberry daiquiri?

Blended fruit daiquiris are generally made with mild-tasting light or white rums. There is no need to use a premium sipping rum or a deeply spiced rum as those flavors will either get lost in the fruit or clash with the bright flavors in the drink. Generally imported from Puerto Rico, a moderately priced white rum is perfect for a strawberry daiquiri.

Can you make a strawberry daiquiri without alcohol?

If any guest is choosing not to drink or if the kiddos want to get in on the paper umbrella action, this strawberry daiquiri can be made without the rum. Simply replace the rum with either limeade or lemon-lime soda for a sweet, virgin spin on the strawberry daiquiri. Add a few drops of rum extract for a nod to the traditional flavor.

Can you make strawberry daiquiris ahead of time?

If you want to work ahead, blend these daiquiris up and store them in the blender pitcher in the freezer for up to 30 minutes. When you're ready to serve, blend the mixture for about 20 seconds more, divide it between glasses, and enjoy! This make-ahead method is a life saver for entertaining. Use the same technique for revamping leftover daiquiris.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. fresh strawberries
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 1/2 cups white rum
  • 1 1/2 lb. frozen strawberries
  • Lime wheels, to garnish

Directions

    1. Step 1Hull and slice the fresh strawberries. Place the fresh strawberries in a medium bowl; stir in the sugar and lime juice. Allow to sit covered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    2. Step 2In a blender, combine the strawberry mixture, rum, and frozen strawberries. Start the blender on low speed, then increase to high speed. Blend until smooth, 20 to 30 seconds.
    3. Step 3Pour the daiquiris into glasses and garnish with lime wheels.

Tip: If you’re not ready to serve up all the daiquiris, store the remaining daiquiri mixture in the blender pitcher in the freezer for up to 30 minutes. When everyone is ready for seconds, re-blend the daiquiri for 20 seconds and serve 'em up!
