The Best Christmas Markets in America to Visit This Season

Christmastime can be so magical! Between the twinkling lights, the big holiday feasts, and the gift giving, it truly is the most wonderful time of the year. And of the many Christmas activities you can do with your family and friends or even solo is visiting a Christmas market. While Europe is more traditionally known for them, there are some of the best Christmas Markets in the United States.
Across the country, you can participate in so many festive markets that turn regular cities into some of the best Christmas towns around. They're great for the whole family, where you can eat, drink, and shop for gifts for everyone on your list (and yourself, of course). Some, like the Christkindlmarket in Chicago and Tomball German Fest in Texas honor the European traditions, while others are more modern. Head to the skating rink in Bryant Park in the heart of New York City or take a ride on a carousel in Baltimore.
Almost all of the markets here are open for several weeks and free to attend, so you have time to explore and truly enjoy the holiday season. Pro tip: Go early in the season and early in the day to avoid the crowds. But even if it is a little busier than normal, simply enjoy the revelry that goes with it!

Winter Village at Bryant Park in New York, New York
There are actual several Christmas markets in New York City, but if you can only go to one, head to the Winter Village at Bryant Park. Not only are there shops and eateries filling up practically every inch of the park's border, but there's also a huge skating rink in the center. You can even rent a cozy heated igloo to enjoy snacks.

Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
You can imagine that a place named for the biblical town would get into the Christmas spirit, and Bethlehem certainly does! Their annual Christkindlmarkt features handmade artisan crafts like nutcrackers and other collectables, local music acts, and even strolling carolers! And of course, there's lots of festive food and drink.

DC Holiday Market at Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C.
You'll find more than 30 small artisan and boutique brands to shop if you visit our nation's capital during the holiday season. The DC Holiday market also has lots of yummy sweet treats to enjoy. And best of all is the live music! Over 30 performances are scheduled featuring local talent.

Christkindlmarket in Chicago, Illinois
If you want to feel like you're in Germany without leaving the states, head to Chicago for their annual Christkindlmarket. It is inspired by the 16th century market in Nuremberg, Germany, and prides itself in bringing a unique shopping experience, traditional foods and beverages like mulled wine, and live entertainment.

Christkindl Market Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia
Lucky you, because if you're in Atlanta, you get to choose between two markets: Buckhead Village and Galleria on the Park. Each feature a unique fusion of traditional German festivities and the vibrant spirit of the city. See if you can spot Santa while you're walking around!

The Osthoff Resort may be a bit out of the way but it's worth the trek to see the mix of local and international artisan works like wreaths, ornaments, jewelry, and so much more. They even have rides on horse-drawn wagons for fun as well as a delectable taste of German food.
