If I had to crown one chicken cut as my forever favorite, thighs would win without hesitation. They stay unbelievably tender and packed with flavor when cooked properly—often even more satisfying than chicken breasts. Plus, chicken thighs are usually easier on the wallet, which makes them perfect for quick weeknight dinners.

This creamy lemon herb chicken is everything you want in a simple meal: affordable, flavorful, and ready fast. Made in just one pan, it comes together in less than 30 minutes. Fresh herbs like parsley, dill, basil, and chives pair beautifully with bright lemon to give the sauce a fresh, vibrant finish. Serve it with a side salad, some fresh bread, and dinner is complete!

Can you use chicken breasts instead of thighs in creamy lemon herb chicken?

Yes, if you prefer white meat, chicken breasts work just fine. Use chicken cutlets or boneless, skinless chicken breasts that have been pounded to an even thickness so they cook evenly. You’ll need about 1½ pounds total.

What kind of white wine is best for creamy lemon herb chicken?

Choose one that's not too sweet. My favorite white wines for cooking are crisp, dry varieties like pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc. If you don't want to use wine or don’t have any on hand, chicken broth is a great white wine substitute.

What do you serve with creamy lemon herb chicken?

Choose your own adventure here: angel hair pasta, cooked rice, mashed potatoes, or a big green salad all pair well with chicken. I tend to gravitate toward some sort of carb to sop up all of the creamy pan sauce, but that’s just me!

How long does creamy lemon herb chicken last in the fridge?

This will stay good for up to three days when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat the chicken over low heat on the stove, splashing in a little chicken broth or water to thin out the sauce if needed. You can also reheat it in the microwave for a quicker option.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • Kosher salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 6 (4-oz.) boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1/4 cup white wine
  • 3 garlic cloves, grated on a microplane
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup finely grated parmesan
  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced
  • 2 Tbsp. roughly chopped parsley
  • 2 Tbsp. roughly chopped dill
  • 2 Tbsp. sliced chives
  • 2 Tbsp. thinly sliced basil
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Directions

    1. Step 1Add the flour to a shallow bowl and season with salt and pepper. Heat a large skillet over medium-high, then add the oil.
    2. Step 2Meanwhile, dredge the chicken in the flour, shaking off any excess. When the oil is shimmering, add the chicken to the pan and fry until golden brown and cooked through, 4 to 6 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
    3. Step 3Carefully add the wine to the pan. Using a wooden spoon, scrape up any brown bits on the bottom of the pan to release the flavor, then add the garlic, cream, parmesan, lemon zest and juice, and a little more salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and continue cooking until the sauce thickens slightly, 2 to 3 minutes.
    4. Step 4Taste and adjust the seasonings with a little more salt and pepper as necessary, then stir in about three-fourths of the parsley, dill, chives, and basil. Return the chicken to the pan, turning to coat. Sprinkle with the remaining herbs and serve immediately with more lemon wedges.
