Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with an ice-cold Irish mule. Perfect for those who prefer something other than Irish beer, this refreshing drink marries Irish whiskey, sweet and spicy ginger beer, and a squeeze of lime. Who doesn't love 3-ingredient cocktails?! As a simple, stir-together drink, this couldn’t be easier to add to your St. Patrick’s Day spread. Plus, the recipe is easy to double, triple, or quadruple, depending on the size of your crowd!

What is a mule?

Mules are cocktails traditionally made with ginger beer, citrus juice, and the liquor of your choice. They are often served in copper mugs or cups. In the world of cocktails, you'll find many variations of mules, each containing a different liquor. The popular Moscow mule has vodka while an Irish mule is made with whiskey (preferably Irish). You'll also find Mexican mules containing tequila and London mules with gin.

Why are mules served in copper cups?

It's all part of the iconic look! Some claim the copper cups keep the drink cooler or improve the taste; but above all, they enhance the drinking experience by simply being more fun. That said, a well-designed copper cup typically has a long handle, which prevents the warmth of your hand from reaching the drink—so every sip is as cold as possible. If you don't have copper cups, serve this zippy cocktail in high ball glasses instead.
