million dollar pie
C.W. Newell

I will continue to share my love of old-fashioned grandma dessert recipes until the end of time. This million dollar pie is one of ‘em! Here are the reasons it lives up to its name:

1. It’s entirely no-bake and shockingly easy.

2. You can make it a day ahead—and should!

3. It’s cool, creamy, light, fluffy, and absolutely delicious.

4. It’s pretty!

I’m telling you, this is such a great dessert to bring to potlucks, parties, your next-door neighbor, birthdays, or just about any occasion. The filling gets its pink color from maraschino cherries, and there’s also pineapple, coconut, and crunchy candied pecans folded in. It sort of reminds me of one of those scrumptious retro fluff salads! For the decorations, you just dollop on some whipped topping, add a sprinkle of the pecans, and arrange more cherries in a circle—easy peasy.

If it’s too hot to turn on the oven where you live, here are more no-bake pies to make, plus some extra potluck desserts in case you need them.

What size graham cracker crust is best for million dollar pie?

This million dollar pie recipe was created for a 10-inch graham cracker crust, but a 9-inch crust works fine, too. You just might have a little extra filling left over. Mound as much as you can into the crust, then spoon any leftovers into small dessert cups. Cover and pop them in the fridge, and you’ll have the perfect sweet snack later on!

How long does million dollar pie last in the fridge?

Leftover pie will keep well, covered or in an airtight container, for up to three days in the refrigerator.

Can you freeze million dollar pie?

Yes, it freezes well thanks to the whipped topping in the filling. The pie can be tightly wrapped in plastic or placed in an airtight container and frozen for up to one month. Let it thaw in the fridge overnight. For the best presentation, wait to add the toppings until just before serving. If you’re freezing leftover pie, you can leave the toppings on—just remove the cherries first, if possible.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz. cream cheese, cubed and at room temperature
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 1 cup chopped maraschino cherries, plus 10 whole cherries and 2 Tbsp. cherry juice from the jar
  • 2 (8-ounce) cans crushed pineapple, well drained
  • 1 1/4 cups sweetened shredded coconut
  • 3/4 cup chopped candied or glazed pecans
  • 4 cups frozen whipped topping (such as Cool Whip), thawed
  • 1 (10-inch) graham cracker crust

Directions

    1. Step 1In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment or with an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese on medium-low speed until smooth, about 1 minute. Add the sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice, salt, and cherry juice, and beat until well combined. Fold in the pineapple, 1 cup of the coconut, ½ cup of the pecans, and the chopped cherries. Fold in 2 cups of the whipped topping.
    2. Step 2Scrape the mixture into the graham cracker crust, smoothing the top. Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight.
    3. Step 3Just before serving, spread the top of the pie with the remaining 2 cups whipped topping. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup each coconut and pecans around the edge of the whipped topping and garnish with the whole cherries.
