10 TV Shows to Watch If You Love ‘Dutton Ranch’
There’s a little bit of Beth and Rip in all of ‘em!
There’s a reason Dutton Ranch fans don’t just want another Western. If that were the case, any show with horses and a few dusty roads would do the trick. But Beth and Rip’s new chapter works because it still has all the things Yellowstone fans care about: family loyalty, old grudges, land worth fighting over, and people who tend to make things worse the second they’re trying to make them better.
Dutton Ranch moved Beth and Rip to Texas, but apparently trouble knows how to cross state lines. Carter is now in the middle of something much bigger than himself, old instincts are kicking in fast, and every calm moment feels like it’s only calm because someone hasn’t kicked the door in yet.
So if you’re already counting down to season 2, these shows are worth adding to your watch list. They aren’t all straight Westerns, but they do have a lot of the same ingredients: ranches, lawmen, family businesses, dangerous loyalties, and romances that probably should’ve come with a warning label. None of them are a perfect Dutton Ranch replacement, because honestly, what is? But they all scratch at least part of the same itch. Ranson Canyon
This is the closest match on the list if you want another Texas drama with ranch families who cannot stop complicating each other’s lives. Ransom Canyon follows the people of a small Hill Country town, including Josh Duhamel’s Staten Kirkland, a rancher who has history with just about everyone. There’s romance, land trouble, and plenty of people making emotional decisions when they should probably take a walk first!
Territory
Territory takes the ranch-family power struggle to Australia, where Marianne Station is so big that everybody wants a say in what happens to it. After a death shakes up the Lawson family, the question of who gets control turns ugly fast. And it’s not a slow little ranch story; it’s more like watching a family business start eating itself from the inside.
Longmire
Longmire is for the Dutton Ranch fan who likes a sheriff with a dark past and a case that usually turns out messier than expected. Walt Longmire works in rural Wyoming, where every investigation seems to involve old relationships, local grudges, or someone who knows more than they’re saying.
Justified
Raylan Givens is a U.S. Marshal with a cowboy hat, a sharp mouth, and a real talent for making a bad situation worse before he makes it better! Justified sends him back home to Kentucky, which means half the criminals he’s chasing either know him, hate him, or both. It’s not a ranch show, but if you like Marshals, Kayce, or any lawman who doesn’t exactly relax people when he walks in, this is a great pick.
Dark Winds
Dark Winds follows two Navajo police officers working cases in the Southwest during the 1970s. It’s more contained than Dutton Ranch and a lot less soap-y, but the mysteries will grab your attention and the setting actually matters to the story. Zahn McClarnon is reason enough to watch!
Joe Pickett
Joe Pickett starts with a Wyoming game warden finding a body, which is a pretty efficient way to ruin a workday. From there, the show gets into small-town corruption, family danger, and the kind of people who are very comfortable hiding things in plain sight. It’s based on the C.J. Box books, so there’s a built-in storyline that keeps it moving.
Outer Range
Outer Range looks like a normal ranch drama for about five minutes, until it becomes something much weirder. Josh Brolin plays Royal Abbott, a Wyoming rancher trying to protect his family’s land while dealing with a giant mystery in one of his pastures. Go in knowing it’s not a straight Yellowstone-style show and you’ll have a better time with it.
The Son
Pierce Brosnan plays Eli McCullough, a Texas cattleman who becomes an oil baron and tries to keep his empire intact. The Son jumps between different points in his life, so it’s more of a family saga than a modern ranch drama. Still, if the Texas setting is part of what you liked about Dutton Ranch, you’ll love this one!
Landman
Landman is another Taylor Sheridan show, only this time the fighting is over oil instead of cattle. Billy Bob Thornton plays Tommy Norris, a crisis manager in West Texas who spends most of his time cleaning up disasters caused by powerful people, greedy people, or both.
Sons of Anarchy
Sons of Anarchy has no horses and no ranch fences, but it absolutely understands people doing reckless things in the name of protecting their own. The show follows an outlaw motorcycle club in California, where every choice seems to create another enemy.
