Bad news, Yellowstone fans: One spinoff we’ve been waiting on for years is officially off the table.
The rumored 6666 series first entered the conversation in 2021, when Jimmy’s storyline took him from the Yellowstone bunkhouse to the real-life Four Sixes Ranch in Texas. It seemed like a natural next chapter: Jimmy found his footing there, grew into a respected cowboy, and ultimately chose that life over returning to Montana. The project was even discussed publicly as part of the growing Yellowstone universe—but according to Taylor Sheridan himself, the 6666 spinoff isn’t happening.
“There is never going to be one,” Sheridan said of the series during a recent appearance on Dale Brisby’s Rodeo Time podcast, according to Holler. “I would never fictionalize that ranch.”
And his reasoning goes much deeper than simply losing interest in the idea. Sheridan now owns the historic Four Sixes, and he explained that creating an ongoing drama there would eventually mean inventing conflicts and personal lives around a place where real people work, raise families, and carry on a ranching tradition he feels strongly about protecting.
“Now I’m trivializing and fictionalizing something where real people work, and they raise their families there,” Sheridan said. “And I could never do that to them.” He added that he is “very protective of the 6666s” and feels a responsibility to preserve what the ranch represents.
That also helps explain why Jimmy’s Yellowstone chapters at the Four Sixes felt different from so much of the series. Sheridan said he has actually pulled those scenes together on his computer and sees them as a complete story of their own: Jimmy arrives as a misfit and leaves as a man who has earned the respect of real cowboys. It didn’t need another family war, land battle, or Yellowstone-sized catastrophe to give fans closure!
Fortunately, saying goodbye to 6666 doesn’t mean saying goodbye to the Dutton universe. Beth and Rip’s story is continuing with Dutton Ranch, while Kayce will return for Marshals Season 2. We may never get the Jimmy spinoff many fans imagined, but Sheridan’s reason for leaving the Four Sixes alone feels very much in keeping with what made that part of Yellowstone memorable in the first place: Sometimes the ranch itself is enough.
