The Pioneer Woman was up before the sun making cinnamon rolls, which honestly feels like the most Pioneer Woman sentence ever written!
In a recent Instagram video, Ree Drummond shared a behind-the-scenes look at her beloved cinnamon rolls coming together in the wee hours of the morning. The video starts at 5:56 a.m., which is already impressive enough, and then moves through the whole glorious process one timestamp at a time. By 6:03 a.m., Ree was rolling out dough, sprinkling cinnamon sugar, and making the sort of breakfast that would make anyone wander into the kitchen in pajamas.
Her caption said it all: “Nothing better.”
Of course, longtime PW fans know that Ree’s cinnamon rolls are not just any cinnamon rolls. They are practically famous. They’re the cinnamon rolls she has made for years, often as homemade gifts for friends, neighbors, and anyone lucky enough to be nearby when the pans come out of the oven.
“The cinnamon, the sugar, the butter oozing out in every direction... pure and utter bliss, I tell you,” Ree says about the recipe. That about sums it up!
The video shows all the best parts: the dough rolled out, the melted butter spread over every inch, the cinnamon and sugar sprinkled with a very generous hand, and the whole thing rolled into one long, gooey log before it gets sliced and tucked into pans. Then comes the frosting, which Ree has always said is the real star of the show.
“The best part is the maple frosting,” she explains. “Don’t be afraid to drown them puppies.”
That is not a suggestion. That’s a way of life.
The finished rolls looked warm, sweet, sticky, and completely worth waking up before dawn for. Most of us are lucky to locate the coffee pot before 7 a.m., but Ree had already made pans of homemade cinnamon rolls before the day even got started.
