As you can imagine, Ree Drummond uses her kitchen a lot. Not only does The Pioneer Woman feed her family and a ranch full of cowboys, but she also films her popular TV show and tests her cookbooks in the same place. Between the cooking gadgets, the ingredients, and everything to clean up, she needs a ton of storage space.
She does have a lovely fully-stocked pantry tucked in right behind her kitchen, but all the extras do add up. And while you might think The Lodge is the most logical place to store everything, since it does have a massive pantry of its own, that’s not where Ree typically puts the “kitchen overflow” anymore.
That’s because when Ree and Ladd built their new house, she actually started filming there rather than at the Lodge. They aren’t too far apart, of course, (basically just down the road), but Ree does have a closer place to stash everything: a guesthouse right next door. She shared a glimpse of it recently on social media.
“This is our guesthouse where the kids stay and it’s also kitchen overflow when I film/shoot cookbooks,” she said. When her daughter, Alex, comes to visit from Dallas with Sofia and George, you often see glimpses of the house and how close it is to Ree’s main residence. It’s mighty convenient for that extra storage!
Along with floor-to-ceiling shelving, it has a full countertop with drawers below, making it ideal for everything from her cookware and bakeware to extra knife sets and cutting boards. And while we don’t see a shot of what’s inside the drawers, she did share a shot of the other side of the counter with even more shelving… and a curious snack.
“Note the box of Gushers 😂😂😂,” she adds. No word on whether it’s hers or for one of the kids, but hey, everyone has a guilty pleasure! Ree also points out a fun, black-and-white photo of her practicing how to rope cattle hanging on the back wall… you know, just in case you couldn’t already tell that she lives on a ranch. 😉
The rest of it is used as a pantry for shelf-stable products like canned tomatoes, condiments, and several rolls of paper towels. There’s no such thing as too many when you’re cooking that much, right? And as Ree once said, “It's better to buy it now than need it later and be without it.” Thankfully, she’s got two places within walking distance of each other to make sure she’s got everything on hand!
