Ree Drummond’s granddaughter Sofia has discovered a foolproof way to make her grandma’s entire day: Walk into the room and yell “HEY!”
That’s it. That’s the trick. And judging by the five—yes, five!—videos Ree posted from Sofia’s latest ranch visit, it works every single time.
The whole crew (Alex Drummond, her husband Mauricio, baby Sofia, and golden retriever George) just spent the weekend in Oklahoma after stopping in Tulsa for Mauricio’s first round of Alpha-Gal treatment. Alex had already declared it their “last” ranch visit before baby boy arrives; so naturally, Ree spent the weekend calmly enjoying her granddaughter’s company and absolutely not documenting her every move. 😂
The resulting video collection is basically a study in how Sofia greets Ree Ree after any separation longer than approximately four minutes. There she is toddling through the house in her pink gingham outfit: “HEY!” There she is coming around the corner in the morning: “HEY!” There she is after a three-hour nap, freshly rested and apparently delighted to discover her grandmother still exists: HEY!
Honestly, grandmas deserve to be greeted like this at all times. What a confidence boost! Go fold a load of laundry, return to the room, and suddenly there’s a tiny person acting like your arrival is the best news she’s heard all day.
Ree was enjoying this so much that she started joking about preventing Sofia from returning to Dallas altogether. “I’m hiding mom and dad’s car keys,” she captioned one video, followed by the slightly more ambitious: “BRB, I need to go remove the carburetor from Alex & Mauricio’s car. 🚙”
Completely reasonable grandma behavior, if you ask us.
Of course, Sofia and Ree have already accumulated quite the ranch résumé together. Ree got a front-row seat when Sofia took her first official steps there in June, and the two have also cruised around together in the ranch Gator and enjoyed plenty of kitchen dancing.
This visit may have been the last for a little while, but something tells us Ree Ree won’t stay away from Dallas for long. And the next time Sofia heads back to the ranch, she may have one brand-new little brother in tow.
