There's one thing that can instantly put Ree Drummond in a good mood—and it's probably not what you'd expect.
While most people hope for blue skies, The Pioneer Woman is secretly rooting for rain. Better yet, when a storm rolls across Drummond Ranch, she and Ladd have a cozy tradition that sounds like the perfect way to spend a gloomy afternoon.
"I love rain," Ree shared. "I think I have the opposite of seasonal affective disorder; I'm actually happiest when it rains!" Stormy skies, don't threaten her with a good time! 😆
That love of storms goes beyond simply enjoying a cozy afternoon indoors (although that definitely helps!). Living on a cattle ranch in Oklahoma has given Ree a deep appreciation for last drop. After all, rain is essential for the pastures, the cattle, and the land that has been part of the Drummond family's life for generations.
Of course, a rainy day also changes the rhythm of life on the ranch. When the weather is too rough for Ladd to be out riding horseback and checking cattle, the couple embraces the slower pace. "If it's storming and Ladd can't be outside on his horse, we usually settle in and watch a movie or a documentary," Ree explained.
And when the brewing storm really starts putting on a show, they may even take a front-row seat outside. "If the storm gets really exciting, we might go sit on the porch and watch it roll through," Ree said. Out on the ranch, where the sky stretches for miles in every direction, watching towering clouds roll across the prairie might just be better than any movie!
Sometimes, the best memories aren't made under blue skies at all! For Ree and Ladd, those quiet moments on the porch (or on the couch) are a chance to pause, appreciate the land they love, and enjoy a rare chance to spend some extra time together.
