Ree Drummond’s garden is thriving, and apparently, so is the bird gossip.
The Pioneer Woman shared a peaceful new video from her garden on Instagram, and at first glance, it has everything you could want from a spring morning on the ranch: golden sunrise, rows of raised beds, a pretty pond in the distance, and all those little green things doing their best to become herbs, flowers, vegetables, or whatever else Ree decided to tuck into the dirt this year. It’s calm. It’s lovely. It’s the sort of video that might make you want to grab a cup of coffee and start pricing out raised garden beds immediately.
Then you read Ree’s caption—and suddenly, the whole thing becomes a very serious investigation into why birds insist on eating dog food. 😂
“I happen to speak bird and in this video they are telling one another that the lady at the garden just filled the dogs’ bowl on the back porch with food, so as soon as she goes back in the house they can all dive in and have breakfast,” Ree wrote.
That was only the beginning! She went on to wonder why birds do not just “eat worms and seeds like normal birds,” pointing out that “the cows eat grass like they’re supposed to.” A fair question, honestly. From there, Ree’s mind wandered to dogs, cats, rabbits, and the very complicated porch ecosystem she would have to manage if she tried to solve the bird problem with a group of cats. Her conclusion? “It’s rough out here, folks.”

Her caption came with a gorgeous look at the garden she first wrote about in March 2025, after she and Ladd finished building their new house and the yard was finally free of construction equipment. Ree said that she was ready to plant a garden again after about ten years without a big one, back before “life got busy with the kids, football, The Merc and everything else.” She also shared that the garden quickly became a kind of therapy for her, giving her a reason to step away from the kitchen and office, listen to audiobooks and podcasts, and work in the dirt.
And now? It looks like that garden is in full spring mode with the raised beds settled in and the whole scene glowing in that soft early-morning light. Last year, Ree wrote about growing all her favorites from zucchini and tomatoes to basil, parsley, chives, marigolds, and dahlias, and she said she liked mixing flowers, herbs, and vegetables together for a “wild vibe.” Some people call it chaos gardening, she explained at the time, but Ree’s take was simple: “I think it’s gorgeous.”
Judging by her latest video, she was right.
Of course, the garden may be peaceful, but ranch life never stays peaceful for long. There are birds casing the dog bowls, dogs letting it happen, cows minding their own business, and Ree standing in the middle of it all, translating bird conversations before breakfast.
The plants are growing, the sunrise is beautiful, and the birds have apparently figured out the buffet schedule. Spring on the ranch is alive and well!
