Alex Drummond has one very important item left on her baby-prep list: television. 😂

Her baby boy is due this month and with plenty of newborn snuggles (and probably some very odd hours) ahead, she recently asked her followers to send over their best postpartum shows. And boy, did they deliver! Alex shared the recommendations that came up again and again, along with a couple she’s already particularly excited about watching herself.

The resulting list is wonderfully all over the place. One night you can watch a Regency romance; the next, you can watch beautiful women in Rhode Island yell at each other. Both have their place! There are brand-new shows, familiar favorites with hundreds of episodes, small-town dramas where everybody knows everybody’s business, cowboys, time travel, and even Elle Woods before Harvard.

So whether you have a new baby coming or simply plan to spend more time on the couch this fall (a noble pursuit!), Alex’s list should keep you busy for quite a while. Here are the best TV shows to binge-watch this fall.

1

The Real Housewives of Rhode Island

Seven glamorous women posing around a lavish table by the ocean, featuring the logo of "The Real Housewives of Rhode Island.

Alex put this one “majorly” on her own watch list, so let’s begin there. Rhode Island may be tiny, but its Housewives apparently found plenty to argue about anyway. 😂 The entire first season and reunion are already waiting on Peacock, so there’s no weekly waiting required.

Imagine finding out at 17 that a grandfather you were never allowed to meet left you an island in Canada. You’d go, right? That’s what sends Annie to Sterling Point, where the family history gets complicated very quickly. And the Muskoka setting is awfully pretty to look at while all the secrets unravel.

The Five Star Weekend

Five women smiling together on a beach, with a sunset and a coastal house in the background.
imdb

Jennifer Garner + Nantucket + Elin Hilderbrand is a pretty convincing equation. Garner plays Hollis Shaw, a successful cook and author who brings together friends from different periods of her life after a devastating loss—and naturally, gathering that many old relationships under one beautiful roof means a few secrets are coming along, too. All eight episodes are streaming on Peacock and the show has already been renewed for a second season!

Alex added “also on my list!!” next to this one, and she has quite an undertaking ahead of her: all eight seasons and 180 episodes are on Hulu. Wisteria Lane looks lovely from the curb, but inside those houses? Affairs, secrets, blackmail, murder...you know, neighbor stuff.

Ransom Canyon

imdb

This is kind of like Virgin River, but with cowboys. Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly play Staten and Quinn, who have one of those longtime, complicated, everybody-can-see-it relationships while life in their Texas town keeps getting in the way. There are two seasons now, which gives you lots of time to become overly invested in people you’ve never met.

Sweet Magnolias

Five seasons in, Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue have been through enough together that margarita night should probably qualify as a medical necessity. This is a good one if you like close friendships, a small Southern town, and just enough drama to keep Serenity from becoming too serene. And there are plenty of episodes to binge!

Elle

Elle Woods in high school? What, like it’s hard? 😂 Elle goes back to 1995, long before Harvard Law and Bruiser and the bend and snap, when Elle was dealing with teenage friendships, her family, and the various indignities of being in high school. Season 1 is only eight episodes, so this is a very manageable little binge.

First, there really are a lot of Walter boys. Jackie moves from Manhattan to rural Colorado and lands smack in the middle of their enormous family after losing her own—and eventually somewhere between Alex and Cole, which gets, well, complicated. Season 3 just arrived in August, so there are now three seasons of Walter-family business to catch up on.

Poor Mary Bennet has spent more than 200 years standing somewhere behind Elizabeth and Jane, and she has finally had enough. This Pride and Prejudice spinoff lets the overlooked Bennet sister leave Meryton, find her footing, and get a love story of her own. Regency dresses in the fall? Yes, please!

Sometimes, you just want to watch people be good to one another for a while. That’s Ted Lasso! There are plenty of laughs and soccer along the way, but the reason people get so attached is really Ted, Rebecca, Roy, Keeley, and the rest of the Richmond crew. If you’ve never seen it, you’ll have four wonderful seasons to catch up on.

The Way Home

imdb

Do not let the Hallmark part fool you into assuming you know exactly where this is going. There’s time travel involved here! The story follows three generations of women in the Landry family—and once the past starts answering questions about the present, you’ll be hooked. All four seasons are now available, so at least you won’t have to wait years for the mysteries to get sorted out.
