After her latest book tour, visits to QVC, and family getaways, The Pioneer Woman has found the perfect airport outfit formula that checks all the boxes: comfy enough for the plane, easy enough for the security line, and cute enough for a quick selfie before takeoff or a dash to the next stop after landing.
Ree Drummond shared her go-to travel look while hopping from city to city, along with a few funny and genuinely useful tips for making air travel a little easier. And since it’s the season for summer trips, there’s no better time to borrow a few of her ideas—and recreate her comfy, practical airport outfit for yourself.
First up: comfort. “Stretchy jeans or leggings are an absolute must,” Ree says. “They’re comfy and feel more like pajamas on the plane!” From there, she builds the rest of the outfit with easy layers: “Then I go with a long shirt plus a shawl that can double as a blanket.” It’s a smart combo for staying cozy in chilly airports and on the plane; plus, it can hide a wrinkled top. 😂
Footwear is another key part of the formula. “I also wear boots that unzip so they’re easy to take off,” Ree says. This step is especially important to avoid any unfortunate holdups while going through security. According to Ree, it happens. She once posted, "boots that unzip so I don't have to ask the TSA agent to help me pull them off at security. It's happened before. It was so awkward." See? 😆
When traveling with luggage, she keeps it simple. “I always carry on!” That means sticking with practical bags that are easy to manage, like a rolling carry-on suitcase and a roomy weekender. Ree also suggests, a "small purse I can shove in my carry-on so I only have two bags." And because travel always seems to call for a few little extras, she adds, “I usually have a hair clip in my bag.”
Of course, no Ree-approved look would be complete without one last accessory: a Diet Dr Pepper. Grab yours and shop the essentials to her whole look below!
