There is absolutely no such thing as a low-stakes Easter egg hunt on Drummond Ranch!

Ree Drummond gave everyone a behind-the-scenes look at this year’s family scramble, and let’s just say these folks aren’t out there casually strolling around with baskets. In the clip she shared to her Instagram story, the garage door starts to lift, the Beastie Boys’ “You Gotta Fight for Your Right” is blasting, and out come the older “kids” in matching Drummond Easter t-shirts like they’ve been waiting all year for this moment. (Which, honestly, they probably have.)

The funniest part is how quickly it goes from normal holiday fun to full-blown mission mode. The door is barely open before people are ducking, charging, and making a run for the yard with their tote bags in hand. It’s Easter, yes. But it’s also apparently the Olympics!

Alex was notably one of the last ones out, which feels only a tiny bit unfair considering she’s pregnant and maybe should have been given some sort of head start. Or a bonus egg. Perhaps a private section of the yard. Something! Instead, she was right there in the madness with everybody else, which feels very on brand for this wacky crew. Nobody is getting babied once the hunt begins!

And while the grown-up members of the gang were busy treating plastic eggs like prized game, baby Sofia had a much calmer assignment. She sat on the sidelines in her own tiny Drummond Easter shirt, cheering on the girls (or at least appearing to). Ree joked that she was “confused,” which, to be fair, seems like the correct reaction when a bunch of grown adults suddenly come sprinting out of a garage in matching shirts. 😂

But that’s the beauty of this Drummond tradition! The kids may be older now, but that hasn’t made the egg hunt any less exciting. If anything, it has only become more intense! These are not toddlers wandering around the grass with little pastel baskets. These are competitive adults with very long legs, a family reputation to protect, and money-filled eggs somewhere out in the yard.

Of course, that’s also what makes it so funny. The whole thing still has the same spirit it probably always did, just with bigger kids, faster running, and a lot more commitment to the bit. Ree has shared glimpses of this family tradition before, and every year it seems to turn into its own kind of Easter sport.

At this point, the only real question is how long it will be before Sofia wants in. She may have been happily posted up on the sidelines this year, but give it a little time. With this family, it feels pretty safe to assume she won’t stay on the bench for long!
