It’s safe to say that there are are at least hundreds of recipes that Ree Drummond has developed over the years. The Pioneer Woman is as well known for her new twists as she is for her tried-and-true family favorites. A few that instantly come to mind? Chicken spaghetti, chocolate sheet cake, and her turkey brine that practically breaks the internet every Thanksgiving.

Ree proves time and time again that while new is fun and exciting, there’s just something about the oldie-but-goodie recipe that you know will turn out fantastic and so satisfying. One such example are the scones that have been her “favorites for 25 years,” as she noted on social media. Can you guess by her video what flavor they are?

If you guessed maple oat nut scones, you’d be right! They’re a variation of a recipe she had in her first cookbook and “it’s the same basic recipe I’ve used since 1999, when I first made maple nut scones for my friend Hyacinth when she came over to play one day.” So technically, the recipe is 27 years old!

They are her riff on the classic Starbucks scones from back in the day (if you know, you know). And though she loved those, she’s actually quite partial to her own now. “These are DIVINE, my friends,” she said when she first shared the recipe. Between the hearty oats, the sweet maple, and the crunchy pecans, they really are hard to resist.

They come together like most scone recipes, with cold butter cut into the dry ingredients and mixed with wet ingredients until just combined. Remember, a craggy dough is a good dough. “Crumbliness is the beauty of scones,” as Ree puts it. You don’t have to stress about rolling the dough out perfectly or cutting clean lines.

The method is pretty straightforward! Honestly, the hardest part of the whole recipe is waiting for the icing to dry before you dig in. And whatever you do, do not skimp on that maple icing. “When I say go for it, I mean go for it,” Ree says. By the looks of her video, she knows what she’s talking about. No wonder she’s been making them for decades! Now it’s your turn.😉
