What to Know About Every 'Yellowstone' Spinoff, Including What’s Coming Next

There was a time when keeping up with Yellowstone felt pretty simple. You watched the original show, got very attached to the Dutton family, had your opinions about a few of them, and called it a day. But Taylor Sheridan didn’t exactly leave things there. One prequel became two, one sequel turned into several more ideas, and now the whole thing has grown into its own little television frontier. But we should’ve known that a show this big was never going to stay fenced in!
The nice thing is that the Dutton family tree is finally a lot clearer now than it was a few years ago. Prequels 1883 and 1923 are fully out in the world, Kayce has officially charged into his own series, titled Marshals, and Beth and Rip aren’t far behind with Dutton Ranch. Then there are the more mysterious titles, like 1944, which still feels a little like a rumor than a guarantee, and 6666, which has been hanging around for so long that fans have started to look at it the way ranch people look at dark clouds in the distance. (Maybe something is coming, maybe not.)
And then there’s The Madison, which spent a long time getting swept up in Yellowstone conversations just because it’s another Montana set Taylor Sheridan drama. Fair enough! But Paramount+ has since made clear that it’s not actually a Yellowstone spinoff. Still, if you’re the kind of person who misses wide open landscapes, family tension, and a slightly ominous Western mood, it makes sense to keep it on your radar anyway.
Yellowstone fans, this is for you:
1883
If you want to start at the beginning, this is it: 1883 follows James and Margaret Dutton, played by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, as the family heads west and begins the long and painful journey that eventually leads to Montana. It only lasted one season, which was intentional but almost feels funny now given how huge the whole universe has become. This is where the Dutton myth really starts to take shape.
1923
Next in chronological order, 1923 takes that story forward and drops the family into a rough new era with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren stepping in as Jacob and Cara Dutton. Season 2 premiered on February 23, 2025, and the finale dropped on April 6, 2025, so both seasons are now streaming on Paramount+. It’s still one of the biggest and richest chapters in the whole franchise.
Marshals
This is the one that brought the story squarely back to the present. Marshals premiered on CBS on March 1, 2026, with Luke Grimes returning as Kayce Dutton, who leaves the ranch behind and joins an elite U.S. Marshals unit in Montana. And frankly, it feels very on brand for Kayce. He was never built for a calm desk job and a quiet little reset! The show streams on Paramount+ too, so fans don’t have to work very hard to follow his story.
1944
This one is still mostly a title and a lot of curiosity, but it is real. Paramount announced 1944 as the next chronological prequel in the Yellowstone universe, following the end of 1923. Beyond that, things are still pretty quiet. There’s no official cast, no premiere date, and not much in the way of plot, which means fans are mostly left doing what Yellowstone fans do best and reading into every scrap of news they can find.
Dutton Ranch
Beth and Rip were always going to get another chapter. People love these two—and there’s so much about them we still don’t know. Dutton Ranch premieres May 15, 2026, on Paramount+, with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser back in the saddle, along with Finn Little as Carter. This time the story follows Beth and Rip as they try to build a new life in Texas, which sounds simple enough until you remember these are Beth and Rip and nothing around them ever stays simple for very long.
6666
Poor 6666. This one has been floating around the conversation for so long that it almost seems like a dream! The proposed series was set to be centered on the famous Four Sixes Ranch in Texas (where Jimmy from Yellowstone was shipped off to). It’s still listed by many outlets as a project to watch, but The Hollywood Reporter said in March 2026 that it’s “on hold.” We’ll believe it’s coming when there’s a trailer.
The Madison
Here’s where things get a bit tricky, because The Madison has definitely been talked about like a Yellowstone cousin—and for good reason. It’s a Taylor Sheridan drama, it’s set in Montana, and it premiered on Paramount+ on March 14, 2026 with Michelle Pfeiffer leading the cast. But Paramount+ has also been very direct that it is not a Yellowstone spinoff, and that its central family is not connected to the Duttons. So no, it is not technically part of the family tree, but yes, it still makes sense that Yellowstone fans keep side eyeing it from across the room. (Especially because they’ve already finished filming season 2!)
