If you’ve followed Yellowstone from the beginning, you’ve basically watched Luke Grimes grow into Kayce Dutton over the better part of a decade. Now, with Marshals continuing his story in a whole new setting, he’s still right at the center of it all. Which makes this next part a little surprising: He doesn’t watch any of it.
In a recent interview with HeyUGuys, Grimes shared that he avoids watching himself on screen altogether—even for big episodes or finales. “I don’t watch myself. I won’t watch it,” he said, explaining that it’s not about thinking he’s above it. It’s the opposite. “I get really self conscious and then I feel like it affects the work.”
It’s easy to understand where he’s coming from. A lot of people don’t love hearing their own voice or seeing themselves on camera, and for an actor, that feeling is probably dialed up even more. At the same time, it’s interesting considering how long he’s been playing Kayce and how much the character has changed between Yellowstone and Marshals.
While Grimes isn’t tuning in himself, plenty of fans still are. Marshals has been pulling in strong numbers since its March debut and CBS has already confirmed a second season. In that same interview, Grimes also mentioned that writing is underway and filming is expected to start soon, with production likely running through the end of the year.
So even if he’s not watching the finished episodes, he’s clearly still very much in it—and Kayce’s story isn’t slowing down anytime soon!
