Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler can move all the way to Texas, but nobody really thought they were leaving John Dutton behind, did they?
The latest teaser for Dutton Ranch gives fans another look at the next chapter for Beth, Rip, and Carter, and yes, it looks about as calm as you would expect from a Yellowstone spinoff. Which is to say: not very! Within a few seconds, the teaser is back in familiar Dutton territory: a barn goes up in flames, fists start flying, guns come out, and suddenly Texas doesn’t look like such a peaceful place to saddle up after all.
But the part that will stop longtime fans in their tracks comes right at the beginning, when Beth and Rip sit together at a table near a small memorial for John Dutton. The memorial has his cowboy hat and a photo, and Beth just sits there looking at it. “I miss him,” she says.
“We brought the best part of your father with us,” Rip tells her. (Whew. Somebody pass the tissues—or at least a stiff drink from the bunkhouse!)
Of course, Yellowstone fans know John’s death changed everything. The final season revealed that Kevin Costner’s character had been killed as part of a murder-for-hire plot, setting off one last round of Dutton family heartbreak before Beth and Rip headed south for a fresh start. Or at least, as fresh as things ever get when this group of people is involved.
Dutton Ranch follows Beth, Rip, and Carter as they build a new life in Rio Paloma, Texas. From the looks of the teaser, that new life comes with plenty of old danger. At one point, Beth warns Carter, “I need you ready for the hard parts ’cause they’re coming.” His response? “Sounds like fun.”
Well, that’s one way to look at it!
The teaser also gives quick looks at Ed Harris and Annette Bening, two new faces joining the Dutton world. Bening’s character warns that Rio Paloma is “a bit more complicated,” and from the looks of the clip, she isn’t kidding. Beth later puts it another way: “Legacy is a beautiful thing, but only if it survives.”
Dutton Ranch premieres May 15 on Paramount+ and Paramount Network, with the first two episodes dropping together before the season continues weekly. Until then, fans can watch the new teaser and start getting ready for Beth and Rip’s Texas era. Something tells us it won’t be a quiet one!
