On any given day, a lot happens at the Drummond ranch. Ree and Ladd live there, of course. But it’s also where they work! Every day is a different challenge when you live on a cattle ranch, from losing water during an ice storm to helping nurse calves back to health. “It’s a constant commitment,” she says.
But there’s no place Ree would rather be! Whether it’s enjoying the sunset, taking a long walk, or driving around with her dog Lucy on the Gator, she really enjoys everything about living on the ranch. “I love being at home,” she admits.
Ree now even films her famous television show in her new house rather than the Lodge, where it was filmed for a long time, so she doesn’t have to go far to do that job. But what does a perfect day on the ranch look like when she’s not filming? A fan just asked her that exact question, so now we have an answer!
The question and answer were from a recent Walmart livestream. She was showing her gorgeous new home collection, appropriately from her actual home, and taking questions from the audience. And when asked what her perfect day looks like, it actually starts with work: “feeding Bessie Lou and Fiona a bottle.” Those are two of the little calves they helped save, who are now causing a bit of mischief.
Next up, a big iced coffee. Fun fact: She starts her day with iced coffee, not hot. “I’ve done it for 20 years.” She makes cold brew and mixes it with milk, half-and-half, and a few Splendas. And then, she prefers “just staying home. It’s my favorite thing to do.” She loves being in her home office, in her bedroom, and, of course, in the kitchen.
As the day winds down, she likes to be “in the living room with Ladd. It’s where we spend our evenings.” They watch television together to relax. They’re currently watching Mad Men, which they had never seen before. And that’s about it! “I aspire to stay home. That’s my goal in life,” she says. Sometimes, just enjoying the creature comforts of your space is all you need.
