There’s nothing like a wedding day to sneak up on everyone’s emotions!
Ree Drummond just shared a sweet behind-the-scenes moment from the final episode of Paige and David’s wedding special, and it shows Paige opening up about her dad, Ladd Drummond, before walking down the aisle. It wasn’t a big, dramatic speech or anything like that. It was just one of those quiet little moments where all the feelings showed up at once. As they tend to do! Especially when there’s a wedding dress involved.
“We just posted the final episode of Paige and David’s wedding special, which includes this little interview moment I didn’t know about until I watched the edit,” Ree wrote on Instagram. “The feelings between a tough-exterior cowgirl and a cattle rancher dad run pretty deep, and I think the reality of leaving the ranch for a time was finally hitting home. (For both of them.)”
In the video, Paige starts to tear up as she talks about her father and the hardships he’s faced over the years. “I don’t know why I’m, like, starting to get emotional,” Paige said. “This is literally the first time that I’ve, like, cried.”
Then she tried to gather herself before continuing. “My dad, he’s been through a lot in his life, a lot of loss,” Paige said. “He lost his brother when he was younger, and he lost my grandparents, and he’s just faced a lot of hardships.”
What touched her most, though, was the way Ladd’s life experiences shaped him. “Where that could make someone, you know, kind of closed off and not care, it’s made him care even more,” she said.
Paige also described Ladd as “what you would consider a tougher dad,” but made it clear that his love has always been steady. “One thing that he has never failed to do is, you know, give us everything we could need,” Paige said. “And what do you do with, like, a gift like that? You don’t even know how to say thank you enough for that.”
The video also includes Paige’s first-look moment with Ladd, where he immediately tells her, “Oh, wow. Paige, you are beautiful.” Naturally, there were a few jokes about the dress, too, because even emotional Drummond family moments still need a little humor!
“Oh no, I’m supposed to outdress everyone,” Paige told him. “You’re gonna accomplish it,” Ladd said.
Later, Paige reflected on the faith her dad helped instill in her, while also giving credit to Ree. “My mom lifts him up, and she’s that person in our family who lifts everyone up,” Paige said. (Okay, is someone cutting onions in here?!)
Ree described the wedding episode as having “a couple of teary moments, but mostly lots of fun,” and that sounds exactly right. A few tears, a lot of love, and one very proud dad seeing his daughter as a bride!
