Located in northern Oklahoma, right beneath the Kansas border, The Drummond Ranch is often a hotspot for extreme weather—much like the rest of the Midwest. While there are plenty of sunny days on Ree Drummond’s Pawhuska ranch, during the spring and summer, tornadoes, thunderstorms, and flash floods can sometimes rip through the region. This past week, a massive hailstorm tore across Ree’s ranch, bringing eerie clouds, strong winds, and pounding ice pellets with it. While Ree was safe inside, she caught the whole thing on video—and the footage is wild!
Ree first knew a storm was brewing when she saw a sheet of dark clouds forming. “The sky looks like Greek mythology,” she said. Based on the video, patches of threatening storm clouds stretched out across the sky, which looked pretty ominous, even if birds were singing in the background. “Don’t let the tweetie birds fool you,” Ree joked in the caption of her video.
From there, things escalated quickly. (With the sound turned up, you can hear the ice pellets slamming against the roof and windowpanes.) Ree, of course, had a sense of humor about the stormy conditions—and couldn’t pass up an opportunity to make a punny joke! “What the hail,” she said in her caption.
She also captured the balls of ice pelting the plants and pavement before she moved the camera over to the other side, where the sky was starting to clear up. The final video in her series shows patches of blue popping up in between the clouds and a sunset starting to appear. Even though it was still hailing, there was a light at the end of the tunnel—literally!
