There’s one question Alex and Paige Drummond get over and over again: How did two ranch girls wind up living in Dallas?
As it turns out, there was no dramatic family exodus. Life just sort of led them southward! Alex recently explained the whole thing during an Instagram Q&A after a new follower asked why she lives in a different state from Ree and Ladd—and whether she’ll ever move back.
“I get this question a lot!!” Alex wrote in response. “Mauricio and I met in college at Texas A&M and both got jobs in Dallas when we graduated. Then we ended up buying a house here and tons of our friends are here now, as well as some of Mauricio’s family!”
And these days, those roots run pretty deep. Alex and Mauricio are raising Sofia in Dallas, getting ready to welcome their baby boy, and surrounded by close friends who are raising little ones right alongside them. Alex has previously said she misses her family and the ranch, but loves the community they’ve built. “All of our best friends live here and we are all raising babies and it’s just so much fun,” she said last fall.
Still, she isn’t making any lifelong declarations. “We are by no means locked into living in Dallas forever but it feels right for right now,” Alex said. “We’ll see what the future holds 😌.”
And apparently that phrase—“for right now”—runs in the family.
Paige and her husband, David, also live in Dallas, where Paige says they have “a lot of friends” and get the added bonus of being close to Alex, Sofia, and soon, baby boy. But when Paige was asked about eventually returning to Oklahoma, she admitted, “I think both of us think Oklahoma will be home in the long run.”
Naturally, Ree immediately wanted a definition of “long run.” (Moms are excellent at follow-up questions.) “Like maybe after we have a few kids,” Paige told her.
Ree’s response: “After you have a few kids? That’s a long time.” 😂
For now, both daughters are happy in Texas and make plenty of trips back to the ranch. And Ree has found her own coping mechanism for having Sofia five hours away: browsing Zillow for houses directly across the street from Alex.
Maybe she won’t need one after all. We’ll see what the future holds!
