Here's how our Christmas pajama tradition/ritual typically goes. First, I spend an inordinate amount of time scouring the world (well, the world wide web) for Christmas pajamas that have any sort of strange, funny, weird, or wacky angle. The more embarrassing, the better. I prefer not to select any Christmas pajamas that fall under the "sweet" or "lovely" category. I place the order and hide them so no one can possible see them before the holidays.
Second, I wrap each set of Christmas pajamas individually. This is starting to take a long time considering our family keeps growing.
Third, I wait as long as I can on Christmas Eve until one of the kids finally can't stand it anymore and says "So, what are our Christmas pajamas going to be this year??"
Fourth, I always respond by feigning surprise and regret and saying "Oh no! The Christmas pajamas! Kids, I'm so sorry---Mom forgot this year!!" To which they always laugh and say "Yeah, right..." but then I keep it going for so long that I eventually convince at least one of them that I have, in fact, forgotten the pajamas. It's so wonderful.
Fifth, I hand out the packages and watch them all open them up. Ladd is always the last to open his because I think he dreads what's next.
Sixth, I make everyone go put them on. Ladd is always the last to put his on because I think he dreads what's next.
Seventh, we have a photo shoot! And we will not stop until we finish! After all, weeks and weeks of my life---and much mental energy, focus, and time---has gone into this. I'm WILL have my photo...in this life or in the next. (Gladiator reference.)
Eighth...I share the photo with you!! 😊 Ladd wouldn't have it any other way.
Okay, gotta go. I'd better start searching for next year's pair...
