Can old wives’ tales actually predict whether someone is having a boy or a girl?

Alex Drummond decided to put them to the test in a funny Instagram video yesterday. And while the results might not exactly qualify as medical research, the whole thing is pretty entertaining!

In the clip, Alex walks through a handful of classic pregnancy “signs” that people have been using for generations to guess a baby’s gender. For each one, she dances to one side of the screen depending on what she’s experiencing.

First up: cravings. According to the old tale, sweet cravings mean girl and salty cravings mean boy. Alex dances toward the salty side.

Next comes nausea. Girl if yes, boy if no. Alex steps over to the “yes” side for that one.

Then there’s mood (moody for girl, chill for boy), body temperature (hot for girl, cold for boy), headaches (yes if it’s a girl), and breakouts (girl if yes, boy if no). As the music plays, Alex bounces back and forth across the screen depending on which description fits her.

By the end, the guesses are a bit of a mixed bag, which is honestly what usually happens with these things. The old wives’ tales don’t exactly agree with each other!

The final prompt in the video reads: “Mom’s intuition ✨ Girl or Boy.”

Alex keeps that one a secret for now, though she does add a little note on the screen saying “we already know 🤭.” In other words, the Scotts already know whether Sofia is getting a little brother or sister. They’re just not telling us—yet!

Alex captioned the video with a simple tease: “Reveal coming soon 🤭💕🩵.”

So while the old wives’ tales may or may not be onto something, it sounds like we won’t have to wait too long to find out the real answer. And either way, baby number two will be joining the Scott family this fall!
