One thing’s for certain: The Oklahoma City Thunder has no shortage of fans in Ree Drummond’s household. For years, Ree and her family have been enthusiastically cheering on the NBA team, often sharing sweet moments of support on social media.
But while the whole Drummond crew adores the Thunder, Ree might just be the staunchest supporter of them all. “We are big Thunder fans in the Drummond house, and this is actually the one professional sports situation where I would describe myself as a more rabid fan than Marlboro Man and the boys,” Ree admits. “I love, and I mean L-O-V-E, the Thunder. If there’s a game on TV, I will drop everything and watch it.” Just take a look at Ree’s “Thunder Up” photos, and you’ll know exactly what she means!
So, when the Oklahoma City Thunder took on the San Antonio Spurs last night, self-proclaimed Thunder superfan slash The Pioneer Woman, Ree, rallied behind the players by posting the funniest (and cutest!) throwback photo of her granddaughter, Sofia, decked out in her Thunder fan gear. The picture—which received two separate posts: one on Facebook and one on her Instagram Story—shows little Sofia donning a sleeveless Oklahoma City Thunder jersey, complete with white sweatbands on her wrists and forehead. In the photo, the adorable little fan has an expectant look on her face, like she’s already a member of the Thunder superfan club.
When she posted the photo on her Instagram Story, Ree primarily focused on Sofia’s spirited uniform, but she didn’t shy away from vocalizing her support for the Thunder. “Sofia last year 😂,” Ree captioned the post, while including the side note, “Go Thunder!!⚡.”
Ree’s oldest daughter and Sofia’s mom, Alex, reposted the nostalgic shot, adding, “🥲 🥲,” at how quickly time flies with a toddler, along with her own message of encouragement to the Oklahoma City team: “Thunder up forever & always!!!”
On Facebook, Ree posted the same funny throwback of Sofia, but her love for the NBA team was a little louder. “Let’s goooooooo, OKC Thunder!!! ⚡ ⚡ ⚡,” Ree wrote, along with a bit of context: “(Sofia last year 😂).”
A couple weeks ago, Ree uploaded another sentimental snapshot on Facebook of her son, Todd, at a Thunder game in 2017—which they spent over two hours in the car driving to, so they could see Kevin Durant in person before he headed off to the Golden State Warriors. At the game, Todd took a selfie with Kevin Durant’s mom after agreeing never to “booing” her son again. 😂 “Thunder Up!!” Ree exclaimed. “I was just telling someone this story about a game I took the boys to nine years ago. You might get a kick out of what Kevin Durant's mom told Todd.”
