Pawhuska is about to get loud, sparkly, and very well-fed!

Alex Drummond is heading to the ranch for the 4th of July and it sounds like the whole operation is already underway. There’s packing to do, a dog to groom, a baby to entertain, and a very small window of nap time in which all of this is supposed to magically come together. Parents everywhere know this window well. It’s sacred—and it’s never long enough.

Alex shared on Instagram stories that she and Mauricio are getting ready to head to Pawhuska with Sofia, George, and “the whole crew” for the big 4th of July celebration. “We’re prepping to head to the ranch tomorrow for the 4th, which is my favorite holiday,” Alex said. “The 4th in Pawhuska is always so much fun.”

And this year feels especially sweet because Sofia is a little older and, as Alex put it, much more aware of what’s happening.

“I feel like this is Sofia’s first 4th of July that she’s conscious for, like she’s an aware human being,” Alex explained. “Because last 4th, she was such a little nugget and had no idea what was going on.”

Now she gets to see the fun for herself, which is a whole different thing! Alex said she’s excited to show Sofia all the kid-friendly parts of the celebration. “Maybe she can get her face painted,” Alex said. “It’ll be fun exploring all the little kids activities with her.”

Of course, Sofia may have her own opinions about said activities. Alex laughed that she’s “not the most adventurous girl” and doesn’t necessarily love being “plopped down” into something new and expected to go along with it. Fair enough! Some of us need to observe from a safe distance before committing to face paint. 😂

The 4th in Pawhuska has become a big Drummond family tradition, with street food, live music, games, snow cones, dancing, and fireworks set off by Ladd and the cowboys, who Ree has lovingly said “have issues” when it comes to fireworks. Ree has already shared that this year’s Patriotic Party on the Prairie will run from 4 p.m. to midnight in downtown Pawhuska, with twice the food lines as last year. (Blessings.)

It’ll be a full family affair, too. Ree and Ladd will be there, Todd and Bryce will be there, and Paige will be there with her new husband. Alex will also be there, walking around with Sofia, George, Mauricio, and baby boy along for the ride.

“I’ll be waddling around,” Alex said. “I’ll be bigger than ever, but we’ll make the most of it.”

The only downside? The heat. “It’s gonna be hot,” she said. “That is the one downside of the 4th is I’m always dripping in sweat, and especially this year, I will be.”

Hot, happy, and probably covered in snow cone syrup at some point. Sounds about right for a Pawhuska 4th!
