Alex Drummond’s daughter, Sofia, is at that age where the world is her playground. Whether it’s the claw clip in her mom’s hair, a lone stick lying on the lawn, or a package of wipes sitting on the counter, if an object is well within reach and mildly intriguing, chances are, Sofia’s going to play with it. The 20-month-old is so imaginative that even the simplest everyday items can bring her hours of entertainment!

Alex’s iPhone is one of the many things that Sofia views as a potential toy (her potential toy). With the touchscreen feature and all those buttons, it grabbed (and continues to grab) Sofia’s attention from the get-go. But because Alex actually needs her phone to get her job done, she discovered the “ultimate parenting hack” to appease her toddler without having to consistently share her smartphone. “Give your toddler your old phone case, and it makes her feel like she has her own phone 😂,” Alex shared with her Instagram followers.

At the blissfully unaware age of 20 months old, Sofia didn’t even notice or care that the phone case wasn’t a real phone. She just needed to tap into her little imagination to transform her mom’s case into a highly enjoyable toy. In fact, the makeshift toy even entertained Alex! “We were doing fake phone calls back and forth all afternoon,” Alex said.

Alex used to keep her phone secured in a baby-blue, paisley-printed case embroidered with her name across the bottom. But when she recently splurged on a BaubleBar case, her old one was naturally up for grabs, so Alex had the genius idea of passing it down to her daughter. “Finally got one of these phone cases from @bauble bar and it’s so cute!” Alex exclaimed on her Instagram Story. “They literally have every color combo imaginable.”

Although Alex went with the pink cover, there are dozens of different shades available for both the background and lettering: brights, neutrals, and even monochrome combinations. Of course, the appeal of the phone case is customizing it with your name in 3D acrylic writing and Alex absolutely took advantage of that. And because the new phone case bought Sofia an afternoon of joyous playtime, we’d say the purchase was priceless!
