Ree Drummond sure is lucky with an expanding family. Not only does she have one grandchild and another on the way, but she has two furry grandkids now, too. In addition to grand-dog (granddog?) George, Alex’s floofy golden retriever, Paige recently adopted an adorable chocolate lab named Murphy.
The only downside is that all of her grandkids, both human and furry, live in Dallas. And though they do visit the Drummond Ranch from time to time and Ree drives to Texas to see them, she more often gets updates on their shenanigans via text and FaceTime. Case in point, over the weekend, Ree shared a photo that Paige sent to her for a laugh.
Ree’s response was to compare Murphy to a certain iconic ‘80s character. “It was the first thing I thought of!!” she said. He’s wrapped in a towel or blanket and looks perhaps a bit… alien? And, if you’re a fan of ‘80s movies like Ree, you might make the same comparison.
Who do you think she means? Why, she thought of E.T., of course, the main character from the movie of the same name. When you see them side by side, it’s easy to see why she thought that. She posted the comparison on Facebook, and the similarities are uncanny. Um, Murphy, phone home?
Plenty of Ree’s followers agreed with her assessment, some even posting photos of their own pups in similar poses:
“Definitely ET-esque!!! ❤️ Phone home,” said one fan.
“That’s exactly what I saw, too!!! 😂😂😂,” agreed another.
Another follower questioned whether Paige was old enough to know who E.T. was. But knowing Ree, she made sure her kids knew the classics growing up. Hopefully, as Murphy grows, his antics will continue to entertain both Paige and Ree (and that they’ll both share them for everyone else to enjoy, too). He might not fit in a bicycle basket soon, but he’ll surely remain cute!
