Life moves fast when you have a toddler! Case in point: Three months ago, right before her first birthday, Alex Drummond’s baby, Sofia, could say just three words (very important words, nonetheless!). Now that she’s at the ripe age of 15 months old, Sofia’s vocabulary has really taken off!
After Alex posted a question box on Instagram, encouraging her followers to ask her anything, one particular follower wanted to hear more about Sofia’s speaking journey. After they asked whether Sofia has started saying “Mama” or “Dada,” Alex enthusiastically answered, “Both!!!!” But Sofia’s vocabulary isn’t just limited to her parents’ names. In fact, Sofia seems to have a full glossary at her disposal—one that keeps on expanding! “Her words have exploded lately, and she tries to repeat after us a lot!” Alex added.
Since they’re just too adorable not to share, Alex proceeded to list all of Sofia’s favorite words right now. In addition to “Mama” and “Dada,” Sofia loves saying “Bubba,” also known as George, her Golden Retriever brother. (We get it, Sofia. “George” is a mouthful!)
There are a handful of other sweet words that Sofia has begun to master, even if she pronounces them in her own cute way: “ball,” “cheese,” “night-night,” “more,” “bubbles,” “uh-oh,” and “go.” We can almost hear Alex telling Sofia to “cheese” for a photo and go “night-night” once it’s her bedtime. And we can only imagine the number of times Alex has had to say “uh-oh” whenever Sofia drops a bite of food, wobbles while trying to stand, or falls onto George. Of course, Sofia’s favorite toys are also on the list: “ball” and “bubbles.” And with demands like “more” and “go,” little Sofia has even started to assert herself!
These are the kinds of words that Alex and her husband, Mauricio, probably repeat over and over again until, naturally, they start to stick. The only exception? Ree Drummond’s grandma name, Ree Ree. According to Alex, Sofia pronounces “Ree Ree” as “Yaya,” which she says is “the funniest thing 😂😂.” “Ree Ree” might not roll off the tongue, but it’s a work in progress!
Words aren’t the full extent of it, though. Last week, Alex revealed that—like a true Drummond—Sofia has been practicing her animal sounds. She can say her own baby-talk version of “moo,” “bah-bah,” and “quack-quack.” As Sofia gets older, she’ll become more and more familiar with the English language until—one day—she’s talking in full sentences.
