In just a couple months, Alex Drummond will finally get to hold her baby boy for the very first time! With her September due date fast approaching (the same day as Ree and Ladd’s 30th wedding anniversary!), Alex has been busy getting ready for the new addition to her family by mapping out the nursery, staying on top of her routine checkups and scans, and carving out time to celebrate the exciting news with a rodeo-themed baby sprinkle. She’s also been giving her toddler, Sofia, a crash course on pregnancy before she becomes a big sister.
But even though Alex is trying to prepare her toddler for her baby brother’s arrival, Sofia isn’t quite grasping the concept—understandably so! During a recent Instagram Q&A, when a follower asked whether Sofia can comprehend that there’s a baby growing inside her mom’s stomach, Alex responded honestly: “Not at all 😂😂😂😂.”
Pregnancy isn’t necessarily an intuitive topic, so Sofia’s perplexity isn’t at all surprising! In fact, whenever Alex tries to explain what’s going on inside her belly, Sofia responds in the most adorably confused way. “She stares at me for a sec then points to her own belly and says ‘baby,’” Alex shared with her followers. Sofia either believes she’s the one with the baby or she’s not fully ready to retire her status as the only baby in the house. Either way, her reaction is priceless!
All jokes aside, Alex anticipates the challenge of balancing a newborn with her firstborn. “Part of me is a little nervous for how I will handle both Sofia and the baby considering how clingy she is right now,” Alex admitted previously. “But I know we will figure it out day by day.”
But Alex’s excitement for her kids’ future bond trumps all. “I’m honestly more excited to watch their relationship,” she added. “Sofia is super into babies rn so I think it will be sweet 🥹.” While the new sibling dynamic will definitely be an adjustment, we have no doubt Sofia will be an amazing big sister to her little brother!
