Ree Drummond’s Granddaughter Is Growing Up So Fast! See Her Sweetest Milestones So Far
First steps, tiny pigtails, rodeos, and so much more.
Baby Sofia has packed a lot into her first year and a half of life. Rodeos! Beach trips! Weddings! Airplanes! A magazine cover! And somewhere in between all of that, she also found time to grow teeth, start crawling, develop very strong opinions about birthday cake, and eventually get up on two feet and walk right into Ree Drummond’s arms. Busy girl!
It feels like approximately five minutes ago that Alex and Mauricio brought their tiny Christmas baby home in December 2024, with Ree immediately declaring her perfect in the completely unbiased way as befits a new grandmother. Since then, Sofia has become a regular fixture at the ranch, a seasoned little traveler, and the star of more Drummond family photos and videos than anyone could reasonably count. (We suspect Ree has tried.)
Of course, some of the sweetest milestones have been the smallest ones. A first ponytail. Two little teeth. The realization that crawling means you can suddenly get to all those interesting things adults keep putting just out of reach. Then there are the big family firsts: Easter on the ranch, Paige’s wedding, Christmas morning, and those first official steps that resulted in a perfectly reasonable amount of grandmother shrieking.
And now Sofia is a full-on toddler with pigtails, places to be, and a baby brother arriving very soon. How did we get here already?! Here are some of her sweetest milestones so far—from those newborn days to the very busy little girl she is now.
Welcome to the World, Sofia Marie!
Sofia arrived around 2:30 a.m. on December 18, 2024, just a few days before Christmas—and Ree handled becoming a grandmother with her usual restraint. “She is perfect,” she announced, adding that she was saying that with as much objectivity as possible. Sure, Ree Ree. 😂 Thus began a very normal and measured interest in her granddaughter that definitely did not involve immediately browsing Zillow for houses near Alex and Mauricio.
This Really Was Her First Rodeo
Sofia was only about a month old when Alex and Mauricio bundled her up for the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo—against some grandmotherly objections from Ree, naturally. Her rodeo outfit didn't even make it out the door thanks to a perfectly timed spit-up incident, but she had her tiny ear protection and apparently found the whole event to be an excellent “new nap location.” A cowgirl was born! Sort of.
Her First Easter on the Ranch
At four months old, Sofia celebrated Easter exactly as Ree Drummond's first grandchild should: surrounded by family, dressed in pink seersucker, and receiving approximately enough Easter gifts for thirteen babies. Ree admitted that Sofia's basket slightly overshadowed everyone else's because, in her words, “It’s my first grandchild, okay?” Perfectly reasonable!
Her First Beach Trip
Next stop: Cinnamon Shore! Sofia hit the beach in seersucker and pink sunglasses at four months old, because vacation style apparently starts early in this family. She had a baby friend along for the adventure, and while the adults enjoyed the beach, Sofia mostly looked extremely cool while waiting for her first dip in the water.
Her First Wedding Was Aunt Paige's
Sofia's first wedding happened to be a pretty important one: Aunt Paige and David's May 2025 wedding on the ranch. She even earned honorary flower-girl status and was carried down the same stretch where Mauricio had walked to marry Alex four years earlier. Babies have absolutely no appreciation for full-circle family moments, so the grown-ups had to get emotional enough for everyone.
Her First Fourth of July in Pawhuska
Alex's favorite holiday became even sweeter in 2025 when Sofia celebrated her first Fourth of July in Pawhuska. Mother and daughter wore matching plaid dresses—which is obviously one of the privileges of having a baby who cannot yet object to coordinated outfits—and spent the holiday surrounded by the whole Drummond crew.
Her First Flight
Alex and Sofia flew to Oklahoma while Mauricio drove with George and all the luggage. The flight “couldn’t have gone better”: Sofia slept almost the entire way, although Alex did have to haul a cooler of George's forgotten frozen food through the airport. (There must always be one complication, you see.)
Her First Taste of Steak
Some milestones are developmental. Others confirm that you were, in fact, born into the Drummond family. When Sofia tried steak for the first time, she enthusiastically gnawed away while Alex declared the moment “ a love story.” The strawberries she'd eaten beforehand made the whole operation look slightly more alarming than it actually was, but never mind that. Dinner was a success!
Her First Little “Toofers”
There was big news out of Dallas in September 2025: Sofia had teeth! Two teeny bottom “toofers,” as Alex called them, made their debut after putting everyone through the usual teething fun—questionable naps included. George stayed close by for moral support, which is one of the many responsibilities of being the original baby.
And She's Crawling!
Alex waited nearly 10 months for this one, so when Sofia finally started crawling, there was no playing it cool. The little explorer grunted, squealed, scooted across the rug, and eventually lunged straight toward the camera while Alex cheered from behind. Freedom! For Sofia, anyway. Alex and Mauricio were about to become much busier.
Her First Magazine Cover
Before Sofia even turned one, she landed a Christmas cover of The Pioneer Woman with Ree, wearing a cranberry dress and sitting right on her Ree Ree's hip. For a grandmother whose phone was already approximately 97 percent Sofia photos, having one printed on a glossy magazine cover was a logical next step.
She Turned One!
Sofia celebrated her first birthday in Vail with family, one candle, and a beautiful little smash cake that everyone assumed she'd happily destroy. Plot twist: She hated the squishy icing on her fingers and eventually burst into tears. 😂 Alex joked that her chicken-and-broccoli girl might simply be too healthy for cake, so Ree ended the experiment with a sensible plan: “We'll try again next year!”
Her First Christmas on the Ranch
Sofia was technically a week-old newborn for Christmas 2024, so 2025 brought her first Christmas on the ranch—and the first one she could really take in. There were presents, a pre-opening bottle, a baby Carhartt for future cattle-feeding duties, and one precious quiet moment with Ladd that brought back memories of when Ree's own kids were babies. And yes, Ree got the tree photo before the living room disappeared beneath wrapping paper. Experience!
Her First Ponytail
Forget walking for a minute: FIRST PONYTAIL! Alex reached this highly important milestone while Sofia was busy eating blueberries, gathering her little curls into a high pony with a pink bow. Sofia seemed somewhat suspicious about why her head suddenly felt different, while Alex looked at the finished product and asked the question everyone was thinking: “Who is this TODDLER!!”
Her First Steps at the Ranch
This one may be Ree's favorite milestone of all. Sofia was doing her usual trust fall into Ree's arms in the ranch kitchen when Ree scooted back a few inches—and suddenly there was one step... then two! A “massive amount of shrieking” followed, which feels like a restrained response considering Ree later called it the happiest thing that had ever happened to her. Grandmas will understand.
