At eight months pregnant, pants can start to feel like a personal betrayal.
So Alex Drummond has found a very reasonable alternative: Put on a cute little dress, add a necklace, and accept whatever morale boost follows. Even when the day’s big plans are the grocery store and Home Depot!
“We’re out and about right now running errands, and I have been kind of MIA for the past couple days because I’ve just been so low energy,” Alex explained in a recent Instagram story filmed from her car.
That low-energy stretch isn’t exactly coming out of nowhere. Alex’s baby boy is due September 21, and the “Before baby checklist” she shared earlier this week still had all 15 circles sitting there unchecked. There’s a name to choose, a nursery to finish, a hospital bag to pack, and a double stroller to set up. Just reading the list makes us want to lie down for a minute!
But Alex has discovered that getting ready—even for an ordinary morning out with Sofia—helps her feel a little more like herself.
“I’ve realized that the key to feeling a little boost of morale and feeling better about myself is getting ready each day and looking somewhat put together,” she said. “Somewhat cute.” For this particular outing, Alex wore a loose white dress with red trim, a turquoise necklace, and shorts underneath because the dress was “a lil see through.”
“Honestly, throwing on little things like this is easier than trying to put together, like, an outfit with pants and a shirt,” she explained.
Alex has been searching for small ways to feel good throughout this final stretch. Back in July, she said she was “craving lots of self care” and doing anything that offered a little glow when the rest of her body felt beyond her control. The evening face masks have now apparently been joined by cute dresses and a last-minute spray tan.
“I have no special occasions coming up other than just wanting to feel better about myself,” Alex said. She enjoyed the results so much that she may get “biweekly spray tans” until baby boy arrives. “I gotta do myself all the favors being this pregnant and uncomfortable.”
Fair enough! Alex recently joked that she planned to spend the next month hibernating in the air conditioning, but apparently hibernation still allows for occasional trips to Home Depot, Starbucks, and the grocery store. Then it was time to pick up a drink and get Sofia some eggs—or “eggies,” to be precise.
A cute dress, a little glow, and a toddler snack. Morale boosted!
