Every toddler eventually meets the one friend who copies absolutely everything they do.
For Alex Drummond’s one-and-a-half-year-old, that moment arrived in a sunny patch of hardwood floor. Alex shared an adorable video of her daughter sitting in the light, holding up her hands, and watching with great concentration as the little shape beside her made every single move right back.
“Guess who discovered their shadow 😂😂😂,” Alex wrote over the clip.
Sofia waved. The shadow waved. She lifted both hands, studied the floor, and tried it again. This was clearly going to require further investigation! Thankfully, she had nowhere else to be and a full minute of sunshine available for research.
Ree Drummond loved the video every bit as much as you’d expect. She reposted it to her own Instagram stories and added two very fitting words: “My angel.”
This is the sort of tiny discovery that probably happens in living rooms every day, but it feels awfully special when you get to watch a little person encounter it for the first time. Sofia has been especially busy exploring lately. She took her first steps at the ranch with Ree nearby, then quickly started walking around on her own—car keys in hand, naturally, because she apparently had somewhere important to go!
Now that she’s mobile, her world seems to be getting bigger by the day. There are couches to climb, rooms to wander through, and mysterious dark shapes on the floor that refuse to stop following her.
Sofia may have only just met her shadow, but judging by the video, she’s already keeping it very entertained!
