Alex Drummond just received the sweetest reminder that parents have such a tremendous impact on their toddlers. At 19 months old, Alex’s daughter, Sofia, is at the peak of her curiosity, so she absorbs everything and anything that her mom says and does: words, actions, facial expressions—you name it. So, when Sofia picked up a new habit from her mom, Alex got to witness just how much her toddler is listening to and learning from her.

During an Instagram Q&A, when a follower asked Alex to list Sofia’s latest favorite words, Alex described the adorable new catchphrase that her daughter recently adopted—and that precious tagline stemmed from a simple compliment Alex gives Sofia whenever she shows affection. “Something that has been so cute lately is she’s been giving ‘besos’ to me, George, baby doll, etc. and I always say, ‘That’s so nice,’” Alex explained. “So now she gives a kiss and says ‘OH NICE’ after (her attempt at saying ‘so nice’ 🥲).”

Another phrase she picked up from her mom? While responding to her follower’s question, Alex also noted that Sofia “loves saying ‘baby’ and pointing to her stomach,” which emulates the way her mom talks about her own pregnant belly. A couple weeks ago, Alex explained in another Instagram Q&A that she’s been trying to teach Sofia about the baby boy growing in her tummy, but the lesson is completely lost on her. “I keep trying to explain to her,” Alex said. “She stares at me for a sec then points to her own belly and says ‘baby.’” Sofia might not fully grasp the concept of who’s pregnant, but her imitation is priceless!

But out of all the words in Sofia’s growing vocabulary, one reigns supreme. “‘No’ is her current fave 😂😂💀,” Alex admitted. She wouldn’t be the first toddler who repetitively uses that single word! Overall, though, Sofia’s favorite words tend to focus on the topics she’s been learning at home. “She’s been loving saying her colors and animal sounds,” Alex added.

Whatever word is her current go-to, Sofia’s budding vocabulary proves how much—and how quickly—toddlers soak up from the people around them. For Alex, it’s a heartwarming glimpse into Sofia’s growing personality and the remarkable influence she has on her daughter.
